A Week as a Summer Intern at Building Relations PR
At Building Relations PR, we are committed to nurturing the next generation of talent with work experience opportunities across our London, Edinburgh and Surrey offices. Last week, one of our summer placements Amelia, who studies History at The University of Leeds, joined the team for a jam-packed week of all things property PR. Here’s what she had to say…
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to undertake a week’s work experience placement at Building Relations PR, based in their London office. As someone relatively new to the PR world, this week proved to be an eye-opening introduction to the industry. More importantly, it confirmed my growing interest in pursuing a career in this field. From the moment I arrived, the team at Building Relations made me feel very welcome. Everyone was approachable, friendly, and eager to help me if I had any questions, making my experience even more enjoyable.
Throughout the week, I was kept busy with a range of tasks to help me build a rounded understanding of both the PR world and wider property industry. I had the chance to sit in on client meetings and internal team discussions, allowing me to see how campaigns come together. I took part in a press release workshop which was very insightful and helped me grasp effective ways of writing and tailoring copy for different audiences. I helped with both market research and competitor research across a range of clients. All these tasks helped make sure I got the most out of my experience.
One of the highlights of my week was taking part in site visits. Seeing SO Resi developments in Wembley and Canning Town brought the brochures to life and really showed the value of knowing the product inside and out. I also really enjoyed learning more about digital marketing and was given the chance to create a graphic that aligned with BR’s branding, which was fun to experiment with while adding my own touch too.
Along with graphics, I was tasked with creating a ‘week in a life’ reel which was very fun to film and allowed me to capture lots of content both in and out of office. Being trusted to contribute creatively made the experience feel even more meaningful. It was encouraging to be treated as part of the team, and I appreciated how open everyone was to involve me in real tasks rather than just observing from the sidelines.
Overall, my time at Building Relations PR was incredibly rewarding. The balance of creative tasks, strategic thinking, and team collaboration made each day different and engaging. I appreciated being given the chance to contribute, even as someone new to the field. It’s been a valuable learning experience that’s not only developed my skills but also deepened my interest in this career path. After just one week, I’m leaving with a stronger sense of direction, a better understanding of the industry, and a lot of motivation to build on what I’ve learned
