Eight months in Property PR: What I’ve learnt so far about agency life
When Heaven Buckley-Bryant completed her degree in Media and Communications at the University of Greenwich, she knew she wanted to build a career in PR. Here’s what Heaven had to say about her experience so far…
Eight months ago, I joined Building Relations PR, with little insight into what to expect. I understood the importance of building strong relationships through communication thanks to my degree yet didn’t entirely understand how this translated into the world of public relations, let alone within the property sector.
I had imagined press releases about new developments and housebuilding updates with the occasional site visit but within my first week, I quickly came to understand that the physical building of houses is only a small part of a much wider story.
Making a positive impact
Property PR isn’t just about building houses. There’s a strong focus on the community around the developments, which I’ve come to realise, is probably my favourite part. Since joining Building Relations PR, I’ve learnt how the activities our clients host and the stories we tell can shape how people perceive a brand.
Writing and issuing press releases has become second nature, with each story being an opportunity to celebrate a milestone, share a big announcement or highlight the positive impact our clients are making within the communities they build. I’ve grown to appreciate how much thought, care and creativity goes into sharing these stories.

Beyond the writing, I’ve been able to see first-hand how much community engagement is fundamental in PR. Whether it’s hosting a resident bike workshop to encourage active travel for City & Country, donating time, labour and supplies to pre-schools for Annington or organising energy efficiency sessions at local schools for Barratt Homes, these activities positively impact the local people, building trust and forming strong ties within the community.

Learning from the team
PR is rarely a solo effort, It’s a collaboration of creative ideas, perspectives and expertise. I’ve been lucky to learn from colleagues who have years of experience, and I’ve realised that learning from others – particularly in the office together – is a blessing that’s often overlooked. Every brainstorming session, client call or shared draft has taught me something new about both the industry and myself.
What’s to come?
As I look ahead, I’m enthusiastic to continue growing, refining my skills and deepening my understanding of PR. I’d like to continue contributing to projects that have an impact and excited to see where the future takes me.
My key takeaway from these first eight months is simple. Property PR is about connection, whether that’s between developers and residents, clients and colleagues, connection and collaboration is at the heart of PR.
